Down to the Details!

Happy Friday! Our home is starting to look like a finished product instead of a construction zone! This week was the first week we haven't had someone in the house helping with us with one thing or another, and it was a refreshing couple of days! This post is focused on getting you up to date with the recent little things we have done to give our home some character and make it feel finished. Bare with us, it's quite a long list!

The bar is always a good place to start. Let's go there first!

The new detail here is the texture on the wall behind the bar, it is a product from 3-form. 3-form is sold in panels and can come in many different textures, colors, and styles.
The one we used is from their Varia Ecoresin Line called Wave.

We like 3-form for many reasons; It is a very cool and unique material that is unlike anything else you see out there. Its also an environmentally friendly product. This one in particular is made from 40% pre-consumer recycled content. If you are looking for a green product, or want your project to qualify for a LEED certification, this could work great for you! Give us a call at Iconi Interiors if you would like to talk about using it in your home. We can get you some fun samples to try out!

Onward to our favorite place; the kitchen!

We finished the cabinet above the fridge and framed it with some of the same barnwood we used under the island. We are still on the fence about whether we want to keep it like that or just frame it with the same laminate instead. We then painted the wall above the stove as well as the backsplash behind the counter. We had so many different textures going on already we didn't want to introduce yet another one there. The paint also provides a nice contrast from the laminate on the upper cabinets. The paint is not just a flat coat.  We started with a base coat of latex paint and added another color paint on top with a glaze color washed together. This gives it a little more dimension. Again, our house is sepia tones!!!

Sometimes we have to flashback to what this kitchen looked like a short 4 months ago! We are very pleased with what we've accomplished. One of our favorite things is that we were able to use the same cabinets. This makes things easier on the environment as well as the budget! We also didn't have to take on the back breaking task of removing the tile floor or hire someone to do it, instead we went right over the top with the cool custom concrete floor.

The metal cabinet you see to the right is our portable island. The butcher block top and wheeled bottom makes this an extremely functional piece.

Check out some of the details that we have for our living area:

This is a super cool vintage lamp with a new shade! We have this on a table behind the sofa.

Here is the wall in our dining room. We have changed the paint color once again. We like it more than the lighter shade we had up there originally.  We might add a finish to it like we did with the backsplash in the kitchen.

We love how the double sided fireplace separates this room from the main living area.  We have touched on our fireplace material briefly before, we will give you more details in the next post. Doesn't it look awesome though?

We now have our two matching chairs back from the upholsterer. Super comfortable chairs in a really cool fabric. These have also become Hunter the kitty's new favorite place to cat nap!

This is a vintage swivel chair we have reupholstered to sit next to the fireplace.

Here is a view of the vintage doors we mounted for the entrance to the workroom from the living room. They are mounted on a barn door slide which adds an industrial feel to the room.

Our magazine holder to the side of the sofa is an old doctor's bag. We're both too young to remember the time when doctor's made house calls, but what a cool tool to display our magazines!

This lamp, redone by Mike, sits between the two matching chairs on this cool table we picked up on our anniversary!

Details we have left to do:
Find a light fixture for over the dining room table
Mount a light over the island
Face the end of the fireplace
Finish the baseboard in the kitchen

Then Phase 1 will be complete!

Maybe our readers could give us some ideas for this last awesome piece.... what do we do with this or where should we put it!? It's a turn arrow from a stoplight that we can back light! Maybe it should point the way to the bar. Turn left for cocktails!
